Canada shall have its own Opinion – The Crisis in Ethiopia

Various media outlets have been saying a lot about the ongoing crisis in Ethiopia. The western media, in the USA in particular, have been fanning this crisis in Ethiopia from the get-go to this date. The TPLF led regional forces carried out a surprise attack and murdered over 6 thousand of the Norther Regiment of Ethiopian Defence Force members who were non Tigrian. The TPLF leaders, in a braggadocios manner, talked about this action publicly with no condemnation from any one of the said media outlets. On the contrary, the media have been propagating unfounded news generated toward achieving a certain goal of their sponsors. They have been doing this with little or no regard to the people bearing the hefty weight of lootings, arsons and ethnic-based gross murdering by the TPLF led rebels. In not bringing these actions to the public and by reporting the otherwise, these Media groups have empowered the TPLF and assisted it to take over various local communities and cities in the neighbouring regions. On their way, the TPLF killed, maimed, raped, and displaced thousands of citizens. Summary execution is the order of the day in areas occupied by the TPLF. Atrocities they are doing to Ethiopians is difficult to tell it out. Ethiopians have never been treated in such a barbarous way even in the worst days of the Fascists.

Not only this. Through billions of dollars looted from the rest of Ethiopia and various supporters planted in international organizations, humanitarian organizations and also in government offices, they have successfully managed to push their evil agendas around the world.

Ethiopians of all groups, with exception of TPLF leaders and their supporters, have been condemning this through every means they could.  However, Big media outlets in the likes of the New York Times, the Washington Post, and the CNN within the USA and the likes of the BBC associated press the Guardian and many more in the UK have worked to their best to conceal the atrocities the TPLF is doing and worked hard in giving a bad name to the Ethiopian government against the will of the majority of Ethiopians.  Thus, the trustworthiness of these Medias is dwindling rapidly

While this had been about the US and the UK mainly, Canadian main media outlets were yet to surprise us.

Titled “Canada Should Speak Louder on the Humanitarian Crisis in Ethiopia” the article, by Toronto Star Editorial, posted on November 7, 2021 issue, says that “…The government has blockaded the region, displacing an estimated 1.7 million people and plunging hundreds of thousands into famine conditions”. Following this, the Toronto Star editorial calls for punitive action against the duly elected Ethiopian government.

This totally is uncalled for and ill-advised. Only because the US and Europeans have decided so does not mean Canada should take the same position too.

Canada is an independent country with a clear principle. Any sanction or reduction on Aid to Ethiopia will only hurt the poor and increase possible instability in the Region. Plus, one has to realize that TPLF is now expanding its war into neighboring Afar and Amara regions having displaced over 1.7 million citizens and taken over places such as Desie, Kombolcha, etc. TPLF is also threatening to overthrow the duly elected government and take power.

Putting pressure on Ethiopia will therefore only aid the rebellious adventure of TPLF. Canada should not be lured to join the proxy or the hybrid war to assert the regime change agenda in Ethiopia. Surely, Canada should not be part of such an incredibly destructive agenda.

We at SOCEPP-Canada ask the Toronto Star to refrain from being a propaganda outlet to other Media and sponsors.  We also call on the government of Canada, opposition parties, and all MPs to be mindful of the complex situation in the country and play constructive measures.
